Elroy Dimson was named chairman of the FTSE Policy Group, confirmed spokeswoman Maxi Freeman.
Mr. Dimson replaces David Hobbs, who had been chairman of the group since March 2010 and will continue to advise the group as a consultant.
Mr. Dimson is chairman of the strategy council at the 3.925 trillion Norwegian kroner ($646 billion) Government Pension Fund Global, Oslo, and an emeritus professor of finance at London Business School.
The FTSE Policy Group oversees FTSE Group's independent practitioner committees to assist them in defining governance standards for its global indexes.
