Nancy Goerdel is retiring as chief investment officer of the Texas Municipal Retirement System, effective Jan. 31, 2014, confirmed spokesman Bill Wallace.
Ms. Goerdel is leaving the $21 billion Austin-based pension fund to spend time with her family. She started at TMRS in 1998 as an investment officer and was named CIO in 2010.
The pension fund will start looking for a replacement immediately and hopes to hire a new CIO by the end of the year, Mr. Wallace said.
Ms. Goerdel has been involved with public pension investing for 33 years. She has also served as CIO of the $25.2 billion Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System, Des Moines, and headed the investment department at the $24.7 billion Texas Employees Retirement System, Austin, for 12 years, according to a news release.
