The Connecticut State Treasurer's Office initiated a national search for a deputy chief investment officer of the Connecticut Retirement Plans & Trust Funds, Hartford, confirmed Treasurer Denise Nappier, the principal fiduciary of the state's $26.1 billion pension system.
Gary Carter, the former director of investments for the Hartford Pension Commission, has been interim deputy CIO since August 2011.
The search is open to “any individuals who meet the qualifications for the position, including the interim deputy CIO, should he wish to extend his re-employment status,” Ms. Nappier said in an e-mail.
“He has been an important addition to our in-house investment team and has helped the chief investment officer to fully transition into her permanent role,” Ms. Nappier added. “Gary brought continuity and managerial bench strength to our pension fund operations.”
Mr. Carter replaced Lee Ann Palladino as deputy CIO on an interim basis. Ms. Palladino became interim CIO in May 2011 after M. Timothy Corbett resigned to become executive vice president and CIO of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. Ms. Palladino was appointed CIO of the state pension system in November 2011.
Information about the search is available on the treasurer's website.
The search is being conducted by Hudepohl & Associates. Applications should be sent to [email protected] or by contacting Gary Hudepohl, principal and managing director, or Debbie Roche, principal, at 614-854-7300.
