Matthew Welden was named senior managing director in Gray & Co.'s asset management division, and Brian Swain was named senior managing director at Gray subsidiary Tiburon Capital Management, confirmed Gray spokeswoman Yolanda Foreman.
The positions are new. Mr. Welden will focus on passive and customized portfolios, Ms. Foreman said in a telephone interview. Mr. Swain will focus on convertibles and broadening the reach at Tiburon, which is an event-driven hedge fund firm.
Mr. Welden was a director and portfolio manager for Certium Asset Management and RidgeWorth Mutual Funds. Certium is a subsidiary of RidgeWorth Capital Management. Chad Deakins, chief investment officer and senior equity portfolio manager at Certium, said he and others at the firm will assume Mr. Welden's responsibilities.
Mr. Swain was previously a founding partner and portfolio manager of the now-closed Quattro Global Capital.
