A six-person Japanese equities investment team led by Miyuki Kashima will join BNY Mellon Asset Management Japan from ING Mutual Funds Management Co. (Japan), confirmed Alan Harden, the Hong Kong-based CEO for BNY Mellon’s Asia-Pacific investment management business.
In a telephone interview, Douglas L. Hymas, president and CEO, ING Mutual Funds Management (Japan), said the team won’t be replaced, reflecting ING’s decision to focus on distribution of offshore products in the Japanese market.
In a separate interview, Mr. Harden said “we’re very excited” about adding an institutional-quality Japanese equity capability at a time when signs of revival in Japan have left institutional investors and retail investors alike reviewing whether they have sufficient exposure to one of the world’s largest markets.
BNY Mellon’s Japanese investment management business currently manages around $13 billion in client assets.
