The Senate confirmed Mary Jo White as a commissioner with the Securities and Exchange Commission Monday. President Barack Obama is expected to name her as chairwoman shortly.
During a March confirmation hearing by the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, Ms. White said her priorities include stronger enforcement and completion of an ambitious regulatory agenda mandated by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act.
Investment Company Institute President and CEO Paul Schott Stevens said in a statement that the former federal prosecutor and securities lawyer's public interest advocacy “will serve her well as SEC chair.”
