Kyle McDaniel joined hedge fund manager Whitebox Advisors as managing director for strategic partnerships.
The position is new, said Amara S. Kaiyalethe, a company spokeswoman, in an e-mail. Mr. McDaniel will lead the firm's marketing team and will oversee efforts to build Whitebox's strategic relationships globally from the firm's Austin, Texas, office.
Mr. McDaniel was chief strategy officer and chief administrative officer of Dorchester Capital Advisors. He joined Dorchester in 2010 after leaving his position as chief risk officer and director in strategic research and risk management for the $112 billion Teacher Retirement System of Texas, Austin.
Mark S. Zucker, Dorchester's co-founder and co-chief investment officer, said in an interview that Mr. McDaniel will not be replaced.
Whitebox Advisors manages $2 billion in multistrategy hedge funds; Dorchester manages $1 billion in hedge funds of funds and private market investments.
