Mercer LLC's Kweku Obed received the Harlem YMCA 2013 Black Achievers in Industry award in New York last month for his corporate and community leadership.
The awards were started in 1971 to recognize and celebrate African-American men and women who have made significant contributions to their respective industries and communities.
Mr. Obed, principal and a senior investment consultant in Mercer's Chicago office, works with some of Mercer's largest institutional clients in the Midwest and leads the investment consulting analyst team in Chicago.
He also serves as co-chair of the Racial and Ethnic Diversity Network, a Mercer business resource group that works to attract people from diverse backgrounds and then mentors them.
Mr. Obed is also a member of the La Rabida Children's Hospital board of trustees and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
“It is great to work for an organization such as Mercer, where our senior leaders truly value the contributions that employees make to our business and to local community causes such as the La Rabida Children's hospital. Receiving this award is truly humbling,” Mr. Obed said in an e-mail. — KEVIN OLSEN
