Through the end of February, the U.S. high-yield default rate fell slightly to 1.8% from the 2012 year-end rate of 1.9%. According to Fitch Ratings, eight issues with a total par value of $2.8 billion have defaulted through the first two months of the year. During 2012, 62 high-yield issues defaulted with a total par value of $20.5 billion.
