Kristin Pelling was hired by Putnam Investments as director of defined contribution consultant relations, confirmed Laura McNamara, a Putnam spokeswoman.
The position is new. Ms. Pelling, who started Monday, “will have responsibility for overseeing support of national and regional consulting firms,” a Putnam news release said. “Previously, this responsibility was shared across Putnam's large market sales team.”
Ms. McNamara said in an interview that the consultant relations business had grown to the point Putnam executives decided to create a special job to manage it.
Ms. Pelling reports to Stephen Jenks, head of defined contribution product and marketing.
Ms. Pelling was a principal and director of consultant relations at Mercer.
“Mercer is currently conducting a search to fill this role,” Bruce Lee, a Mercer spokesman, said in an e-mail. “In the meantime, her responsibilities are being covered by other team members.”
