New York State Common Retirement Fund, Albany, committed $300 million to RRJ Capital Master Fund, confirmed Eric Sumberg, a spokesman for Thomas DiNapoli, the New York State comptroller and sole trustee of the $152.9 billion pension fund.
This is the pension fund's first commitment to the Hong Kong-based private equity firm RRJ Capital, which focuses on buyouts and investments in Southeast Asia.
The pension fund also purchased a €7.9 million euro ($10.7 million) stake in Stirling Square Capital Partners Second Fund, a secondary acquisition, according to a posting on the comptroller's website.
In an e-mail, Mr. Sumberg declined to identify the limited partner from which the fund acquired the stake. Stirling Square Capital Partners is a U.K.-based private equity, midmarket buyout firm.
The Stirling fund purchase was made through Access/NY Middle Market Buyout Fund II, a separate account run by Access Capital Partners, Mr. Sumberg wrote. Access Capital is a “midmarket fund of funds that focuses on opportunities in Europe,” he added.
