George Babu was named director at OMERS Ventures, the venture capital investment arm of the C$60.8 billion (US$59.1 billion) Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, Toronto, confirmed Derek Smyth, managing director at OMERS Ventures.
It is a new position. Mr. Babu will identify and execute investment opportunities in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors. He will report to CEO John Ruffolo.
Mr. Babu has had numerous positions at successful startup companies as well as established technology companies. He was most recently general counsel and head of U.S. operations for social gifting startup Wrapp.
OMERS Ventures was launched in October 2011 and has about C$200 million in assets under management.
