Tim Mitchell was appointed manager of New Zealand equities for the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, effective in April, confirmed spokeswoman Catherine Etheredge.
The position is new. Mr. Mitchell will look externally and internally to recruit a small team to manage the fund's investments in locally listed companies, she said.
As of Dec. 31, 2012, the NZ$20.9 billion (US$17.6 billion) fund had a 5% allocation to New Zealand equities.
Mr. Mitchell currently is the fund's general manager of corporate strategy. Ms. Etheredge said a replacement has yet to be named.
In a separate appointment, Chris Jagger joined New Zealand Superannuation as manager of unlisted mandates. The position, managing investments with private equity managers and managers of unlisted real estate investments, is new, said Ms. Etheredge.
Mr. Jagger had been investment director with private equity firm Lloyds Development Capital in London. Martin Currie, a spokesman for LDC, couldn't immediately be reached for comment on a replacement.
