Jeremy Grantham and his daughter were part of a group protesting in front of the White House on Wednesday to stop the Keystone XL pipeline.
Mr. Grantham, chairman of Boston-based GMO LLC, a global investment management firm, was not arrested, but his daughter, Isabel, was one of 48 protesters arrested for handcuffing themselves to the White House fence, according to U.S. Park Police spokesman Lt. Russ Fennelly and Sierra Club spokeswoman Maggie Kao.
The two-hour protest was organized by the Sierra Club, where Mr. Grantham is a top donor, Ms. Kao said in an interview.
The protest was the first instance of civil disobedience for the 120-year-old Sierra Club, which is holding a climate rally on the National Mall on Sunday.
Calls to Mr. Grantham's office were not returned at press time.
