Marvin Barth was named senior investment manager and portfolio strategist at Covariance Capital Management, said Abby Cohen, spokeswoman for parent TIAA-CREF.
The position is new.
Mr. Barth was chief investment strategist at Tennenbaum Capital Partners, an alternative investment firm that focuses on credit investment.
Tennenbaum executives do not expect to refill Mr. Barth's position, spokesman Joe Hixson said in an e-mail.
Covariance Capital Management offers outsourced chief investment officer services and alternative investment management to non-profits.
