David M. Blitzer was named winner of the William F. Sharpe Indexing Lifetime Achievement Award, according to a statement from S&P Dow Jones Indices.
Mr. Blitzer, managing director and chairman of the index committee of S&P Dow Jones Indices, was recognized as one of the “most accomplished innovators and practitioners in the indexing industry,” the statement said.
Information Management Network — whose focus includes providing forums for exchanging ideas, networking and education for institutional investors and others in finance — oversees the award, named for the Nobel laureate in economics.
Mr. Blitzer said he plans to accept the award at IMN's Dec. 3 global indexing and exchange-traded funds conference in Phoenix, where he was already scheduled to participate in a panel discussion.
“When I joined the index committee of S&P in 1989 essentially all we had was the S&P 500 (stock index),” Mr. Blitzer said in an interview. “Now we have thousands of indexes.”
“We maintain same level of care and oversight and integrity, even though the organization (and number of indexes) has grown.”
IMN representatives couldn't be reached for comment.
