Chicago Policemen's Annuity & Benefit Fund will issue an RFP for an executive recruitment firm to search for a new executive director.
At a special board meeting Tuesday, trustees of the $3 billion pension fund approved the RFP and named Regina Tuczak, comptroller, as acting executive director, effective Dec. 1, said John J. Gallagher, the current executive director, in an interview.
Mr. Gallagher will leave the Chicago pension fund Nov. 30 to become executive director of the $12.4 billion Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund, Columbus. He will replace William J. Estabrook, who will retire Dec. 31.
The RFP will be posted on the pension fund's website, www.chipabf.org. Mr. Gallagher said trustees want to hire a firm and begin the search process as soon as possible. Ms. Tuczak will be a part of the search team.
Mr. Gallagher began his working career at the Chicago police pension fund 32 years ago and said he is ready for the challenge of overseeing a larger pension fund. He said his family, including his high school-age daughters, are excited about moving to Columbus.
