Joseph Baratta, senior managing director, was named head of global private equity for Blackstone Group, confirmed spokesman Peter Rose in an e-mail.
Mr. Baratta is keeping the senior managing director title.
Mr. Baratta, who was Blackstone's head of European private equity, is replacing Tony James, who will remain Blackstone's COO and president. Mr. James will “still be very active in the business and weigh in on all the investment decisions,” Mr. Rose wrote.
Mr. Baratta is moving to New York from London; he will be based in Blackstone's New York office beginning in September.
Mr. Baratta joined Blackstone's private equity business in 1998 and moved to London in 2001, to help start Blackstone's European private equity business.
