Rob Blandford was named president and chief investment officer for outsourced CIO firm Spider Management, confirmed Kneeley, Spider's CEO.
Mr. Blandford, a 13-year veteran with the Spider organization from its days when it focused exclusively on managing the University of Richmond (Va.) endowment fund, replaces Srinivas Pulavarti, who was named president and CIO of UCLA Investment Co. on July 13.
Mr. Blandford was director of investments at Spider, which oversees $3 billion in endowment assets — $1.9 billion for the University of Richmond and $1.1 billion for 23 other institutional investors.
In a telephone interview, Mr. Kneeley said Mr. Blandford is reviewing what the optimal structure at Spider Management should be. At this point, there are no plans to fill the director of investments position, he said.
Messrs. Blandford and Pulavarti worked together on every major investment decision for Spider, and Mr. Blandford's appointment will make his transition a seamless one, Mr. Kneeley said.
