William Thielen was named executive director of the $14 billion Kentucky Retirement Systems, Frankfort.
Mr. Thielen, who is COO of the retirement system, was named interim executive director in April 2011 following the termination of Robert M. Burnside. He will remain COO until a replacement is hired in the “near term,” he said in a telephone interview.
(Mr. Burnside, was terminated after he lobbied against a state bill, without board approval, that would have imposed term limits on retirement system board members and banned the use of placement agents at the retirement system.)
KRS has implemented the majority of suggestions made by a comprehensive audit conducted by former State Auditor Crit Luallen to improve the reporting and transparency of the systems, Mr. Thielen said.
