Debra Peake was named interim CEO of the Michigan Municipal Employees' Retirement System, Lansing, effective immediately.
She replaces Anne Wagner, who will retire on July 1 after a 24-year tenure at the $6.7 billion pension fund. Ms. Wagner served as the retirement system's CEO for the past 12 years and started her MERS career as chief investment officer in 1988, according to a MERS news release.
Ms. Peake has held a variety of positions at MERS over the past 15 years, most recently as officer of employee and retiree services, according to the news release.
“We are pleased that Deb has agreed to step into this position as interim CEO. Her extensive experience with the system and her commitment to member service will provide a stable transition for our organization," said Larry Opelt, board chair, in the release.
A search for a permanent CEO is planned, according to the release. Lisa Bond Brewer, MERS' director of communications, did not return a call seeking details about the CEO search.
