Ohio School Employees Retirement System, Columbus, committed $50 million to private equity fund Warburg Pincus XI, confirmed spokesman Tim Barbour.
The $10.5 billion pension fund previously committed $75 million to Warburg Pincus X in July 2007.
Separately, the system committed $30 million to Manatuck Hill Mariner, a long/short equity hedge fund. Hedge fund consultant Aksia assisted.
Also, the pension fund will conduct an asset-liability study in fiscal year 2013 with help from general investment consultant Summit Strategies Group.
It's been three years since Summit conducted a similar study for the system, said Mr. Barbour, adding that the board thought the arrival of Farouki A. Majeed as the retirement system's director of investments on July 2 — the start of its fiscal year — would be a good time to conduct a study. Mr. Majeed is replacing the retiring Robert Cowman.
Mr. Barbour did not return a phone call seeking further information on the study.
