North Carolina Retirement Systems, Raleigh, hired executive search firm Korn/Ferry International to help it find a new chief investment officer, spokeswoman Julia Vail wrote in an e-mail.
Korn/Ferry managing director Michael Kennedy is handling the search.
The new CIO will succeed Shawn Wischmeier, who resigned in February to become the CIO for a private foundation, Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, Eden Prairie, Minn.
Brian Lewis, chief administrative officer for the investment management division, has been handling the CIO responsibilities since Mr. Wischmeier left.
The retirement system, which had $75.9 billion in assets as of March 31, is looking at both internal and external candidates.
