Paul Abberley was named interim CEO of Aviva Investors on Thursday.
He replaces Alain Dromer, who stepped down April 19.
Mr. Abberley was CEO of Aviva Investors London, the manager's London-based investment business. He will retain responsibility for that unit, which runs about £30 billion ($48.4 billion), but will delegate day-to-day duties to other staff, Mr. Abberley said in a telephone interview.
“I still retain a passion for investing; that's what attracted me to this industry,” Mr. Abberley said. However, he said he will be focused on running the business as interim CEO.
Mr. Abberley did not know when a permanent CEO would be named.
Mr. Abberley led the implementation of a strategic business review of Aviva Investors in January that included a repositioning of its equity offerings and a focus on its fixed-income, real estate and multiasset solutions businesses.
Before joining Aviva Investors at its September 2008 launch, Mr. Abberley was chief investment officer of fixed-income at ABN AMRO Asset Management and before that global head of fixed income at Lombard Odier Investment Managers.
