John Rainey was named executive vice president and CFO at United Continental Holdings Inc., Chicago, where he will oversee the company's $11.4 billion in retirement assets, confirmed spokesman Michael Trevino.
Mr. Rainey replaces Zane Rowe, who is leaving to become vice president of sales at Apple Inc., confirmed Apple spokesman Steve Dowling.
Mr. Rainey is responsible for the overall financial operations of the holding company and its operating subsidiaries. Mr. Trevino couldn't provide specific pension asset information by press time.
United Continental Holdings had $1.7 billion in defined benefit assets and $9.7 billion in defined contribution assets as of Sept. 30, as estimated by Pensions & Investments.
Mr. Rainey was senior vice president of financial planning and analysis for United. He had been vice president of financial planning and analysis for Continental Airlines from 2005 to 2010.
