Sovereign wealth fund assets increased 16% to $4.62 trillion during the first quarter, according to data released Friday by Preqin.
Some 57% of sovereign wealth funds invest in private equity — 46% through funds and 11% through direct investments.
Abu Dhabi Investment Authority is the largest sovereign wealth fund investor in private equity, with between 2% and 8% of its $627 billion in total assets invested in the asset class. Kuwait Investment Authority allocates 10% of its $296 billion in assets to private equity, according to Preqin.
