Michael Perez, general manager of the $14.5 billion Los Angeles Fire & Police Pension System, will retire May 4.
The pension fund's board has launched a national search to replace him, using the city's internal executive search team, Mr. Perez said in an e-mail.
Mr. Perez has worked for the city for more than 32 years, including almost seven as general manager of the pension fund.
