Joseph Scoby was named CEO and chief investment officer of PEAK6 Advisors, the investment management unit of PEAK6 Investments, according to a news release from the company.
Debbie Virgo, a PEAK6 spokeswoman, did not return a call by press time seeking more information about Mr. Scoby's new roles, including whether his position is new. Michael J. Rothkopf is listed as CIO on the firm's SEC ADV form, dated Nov. 1. Mr. Rothkopf did not respond to a call seeking comment.
“We wanted a leader with deep experience to drive continuous improvement in our investment processes, as well as help broaden into new areas. Joe's expertise in risk management and fostering growth through technology innovation, combined with a disciplined investing approach, makes him the perfect choice to lead the advisers group,” said Brad Goldberg, present of PEAK6, in the release.
Mr. Scoby was group managing director and global head of alternative and quantitative management at UBS Global Asset Management until he retired in June 2010. Mr. Scoby also was group UBS chief risk officer in 2008 and served that year on the firm's executive board.
Mr. Scoby started his career at O'Connor & Associates, the legacy organization for the A&Q unit of UBS Global Asset Management.
Mr. Scoby said in an e-mail that he's pleased to be joining other alumni of the “original O'Connor & Associates,” including PEAK6 co-founders Matthew Hulsizer and Jennifer Just.
PEAK6 Advisors managed $975 million in multistrategy hedge funds as of Oct. 1, 2011, according to the ADV form.
In addition to the money management unit, PEAK6 Investments also has proprietary trading, risk management and online retail brokerage businesses.
