Texas County & District Retirement System, Austin, committed a total of $505 million in new hedge fund, private equity and private real estate investments, according to a transaction report on the $18.4 billion fund's website.
The hedge fund investments were $200 million to Ascend Partners Fund II and $175 million to Winton Futures Fund.
The system's investments in 27 hedge funds totaled $2.3 billion in 2011.
In the private equity-private real estate area, the system committed $50 million to AG Realty Fund VIII and $40 million each to Starwood Distressed Opportunity Fund IX and Hony Capital Fund V.
The retirement system's total 2011 commitment to private equity, distressed and private real estate funds came to $688 million, according to the report.
The fund also invested $100 million in one credit opportunities fund, OZ Structured Products Domestic Partners II, during the past year.
Paul J. Williams, the system's investment officer, was not available for comment because the system's offices were closed Friday.
