Don Green will take over in January as CFO of the $101.1 billion Texas Teacher Retirement System, Austin, Howard Goldman, a spokesman for the system, wrote in an e-mail.
Mr. Green assumes the CFO position from Kenneth Welch. On Sept. 1, Mr. Welch assumed the role of deputy director of the system, replacing Brian Guthrie, who became executive director. Mr. Welch has been responsible for both the CFO and deputy director's duties during the interim period.
Mr. Green is senior adviser for budget for Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. Prior to that, he was director of budget and policy for the office of the speaker of the Texas House from 2003 to 2009.
From 2001 to 2009, Mr. Green was a trustee of the board of the $23 billion Texas Employees Retirement System, Austin, serving as board chairman, vice chairman, and chairman of the Audit Committee, according to Mr. Goldman's e-mail.
The CFO will work under the direction of Mr. Welch in areas of strategic planning, program development, executive management and administration of all of the fund's fiscal operations.
