Investment theory academics could pocket a cool $25,000 under a new contest on Whitebox Selected Research, a website that is the brainchild of the Minneapolis-based hedge fund Whitebox Advisors.
Launched in September, Whitebox Selected Research aims to “help investors allocate capital in the most productive way, for their own portfolios and the nation,” according to Richard Vigilante, director of research for Whitebox Advisors and Whitebox Selected Research project leader.
“We are looking for those "eureka' moments that cause us to say, "This could be of real use to investors, this could actually show us how to allocate capital more productively,'” Mr. Vigilante wrote in an e-mail. “There is so much research out there; some great, some useless. We want investors to see us as trusted guides to work that is worth their time.”
Investment research papers submitted for the contest must have been published for the first time in 2011. Submissions are due by Jan. 15 and must be sent to Whitebox Selected Research, 3033 Excelsior Blvd., Suite 300, Minneapolis, MN 55416.
A winner will be announced no later than April 15.
