Deborah Forbes was named executive director of the Committee on Investment of Employee Benefit Assets.
Ms. Forbes replaces Judy Schub, who died in December 2010.
Ms. Forbes will be the committee's advocate to government agencies, congressional committees and private organizations involved in issues affecting CIEBA members.
She will report to CIEBA's board of directors.
Ms. Forbes was legislative and policy counsel at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. and previously was pension counsel to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. A spokesman at the PBGC said a replacement had not been named yet.
“I'm very committed to DB plans. (CIEBA) came to me and it seemed like a good opportunity to advocate for DB plans in a different way,” Ms. Forbes said in a telephone interview. “Part of it is being a voice for CIEBA when issues come up that affect their members.”
Ms. Forbes will represent CIEBA in public forums, develop conference programs for members, lead the group's research activities and handle membership recruitment.
CIEBA is a nationally recognized forum for corporate pension plan sponsors on fiduciary and investment matters, and comprises more than 100 of the largest U.S. corporate pension funds with more than $1.3 trillion in retirement plan assets on behalf of more than 16 million plan participants and beneficiaries.
