Ronald D. Schmitz on Fridaywas named chief investment officer of the $51 billion Virginia Retirement System, Richmond, effective Oct. 31.
Mr. Schmitz is CIO of the $60 billion Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund, Salem.
Virginia’s current CIO, Charles Grant, whose contract expired in August, will stay on to help with the transition. Korn/Ferry International led recruitment efforts for this position.
Mr. Schmitz has been with the Oregon fund since 2003. Before that, he was CIO for the $11.1 billion Illinois State Board of Investment, Chicago.
James Sinks, Oregon spokesman, had no immediate information on what the system will do to replace Mr. Schmitz; efforts to reach Mr. Schmitz were unsuccessful.
