Brian Guthrie on Thursday took over as executive director of the $105.4 billion Texas Teacher Retirement System, Austin.
He has been the fund's deputy director since September 2008 and was named the executive director designate in February.
Mr. Guthrie succeeds Ronnie Jung, who served as executive director for almost eight years and has been with the system for 15 years. Mr. Jung will continue to assist trustees and Mr. Guthrie during a transition period until his official retirement on Jan. 31, 2012, Howard Goldman, a spokesman for the system, confirmed in an e-mail.
Also, Kenneth Welch, the system's CFO since April 2008, was appointed deputy director Thursday. A search for a new CFO will begin early this month, Mr. Goldman wrote, and the vacancy will be posted on the fund's website.
