Investment consultant Mercer LLC has teamed up with SMITH Magazine in a project that aims to delve into the minds of employees to better understand how they are inspired, motivated and challenged in the workplace.
The “Six Words About Work” contest calls on workers to sum up their thoughts about work in six words. The contest includes four phases that challenges workers to provide six words on the topics: “Why I do what I do”; “What inspires my very best work”; “The best boss I ever had”; and “The biggest lesson I learned at work.”
Three winners — one each from the U.S., U.K. and Canada — have already been announced for what inspires workers, and judges are now picking the winners for the best boss portion of the contest. Entries for the “Biggest lesson I learned at work” — the final challenge of the contest — will be accepted through Aug. 27. The top-scoring entry for each contest wins an iPad or a Blackberry Playbook.
Steve Faigen, New York-based Mercer partner, said in a telephone interview that the six-words project is part of a larger marketing campaign called “Inside Employees' Minds” that aims to better understand workers' thoughts and concerns.
“The campaign is trying to get a comprehensive objective view of employee sentiment,” he said.
