Trucost will make its array of environmental-impact data on companies worldwide available on FactSet Research Systems to use with FactSet's financial data and investment analytical tools, according to a joint statement by the companies Monday.
Making the Trucost data accessible through FactSet “will allow investors to seamlessly embed environmental risk management into their everyday decision-making, alongside traditional financial metrics,” the statement said.
The move “creates an integrated approach to analyzing the environmental performance and associated financial risk of all companies across the major investment indices, including carbon, water, waste, pollution and natural resource dependency,” the statement said.
In addition, the Trucost environmental data on FactSet can be used to analyze the environmental performance of investment funds.
James Salo, senior vice president, strategy and research at Trucost, said in an interview that it is important for investors to manage environmental-impact risks and opportunities from greenhouse gases and other emissions, water and energy usage, and pollution, among other factors.
Accessibility to the Trucost data will require an additional subscription from FactSet's subscribers. FactSet will share the subscription fee with Trucost, Mr. Salo said.
Trucost provides environmental data to help companies, investors and governments assess the environmental impacts of business activities.
FactSet provides a broad scope of data, research and analytics to investment and other financial professionals.
