CIBC announced the purchase of a 41% stake in American Century Investments, who has $112 billion in AUM. The purchase price was $850 million. One wonders why J.P. Morgan Chase paid $900 million for a 45% stake in 1998 when the firm had $60 billion in AUM. J.P. Morgan Chase paid 3.333% of AUM purchased while CIBC paid 1.851% of AUM purchased.
