Bill Benson was elected chairman of the board of trustees of the $20 billion Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement System, Jackson.
His one-year term was effective July 1, according to a news release from the system. Mr. Benson, chancery clerk of Lee County, Miss., succeeds Thomas J. Lariviere, fire chief of Madison, Miss.
Mr. Benson joined the PERS board in 2008 to complete an unexpired term and began a full six-year term on Jan. 1, 2010.
System spokeswoman Shelley Powers was unavailable and a phone call to Lorrie Tingle, chief investment officer, was not returned by press time.
