IPO proceeds increased to $12 billion by 47 offerings in the second quarter, compared to $6.2 billion raised by 22 IPOs a year earlier, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ US IPO Watch.
However, proceeds are down slightly from the $12.4 billion raised by 32 IPOs in the first quarter of 2011.
Private equity- or venture capital-backed companies accounted for much of the proceeds in the second quarter, with 31 private equity- or venture capital-backed companies filing IPOs generating $9.6 billion, compared to the $2.4 billion by 16 corporate-backed IPOs.
The total number of companies registering to go public increased to 77 in the second quarter, compared to 52 companies filing for IPOs in the first quarter of this year. One planned offering was withdrawn in the second quarter.
