Dan Kozlowski was named portfolio manager of the Janus Contrarian Fund and also will oversee expansion of Janus Capital Group’s alternatives business.
Mr. Kozlowski was founder of hedge fund firm Plaisance Capital, which will ultimately be merged into a Janus affiliate, James Aber, Janus spokesman, said in a telephone interview. That affiliate has not been determined, Mr. Aber said.
Mr. Kozlowski served at Janus from 1999 to 2008 as an equity analyst and co-portfolio manager of the Janus Long/Short Fund.
He will succeed David Decker as manager of the Contrarian Fund. Mr. Decker, who also is co-portfolio manager of the Janus Long/Short Fund, is leaving the company on June 30 to establish his own asset management company. Mr. Aber could not provide details about the venture, and Mr. Decker could not immediately be reached for comment.
Separately, Dan Riff, co-portfolio manager of the Janus Fund and Janus Long/Short Fund, will become the sole manager of the Janus Long/Short Fund. Barney Wilson, assistant director of research at Janus and co-portfolio manager of Janus Global Technology Fund, will replace Mr. Riff on the Janus Fund. Brad Slingerlend, assistant portfolio manager and co-portfolio manager of Janus Global Technology, was named sole portfolio manager of the fund. Mr. Aber said Mr. Slingerlend will continue in his duties as assistant portfolio manager.
