Employees at Russell Investments corporate headquarters in Seattle will be invited to bring their family to see Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners play the Philadelphia Phillies on June 18, one of the activities the company will be hosting as it begins its 75th anniversary celebration, said company spokeswoman Kate Stouffer.
The anniversary celebration begins May 2, three-quarters of a century after Frank Russell founded his brokerage firm — Frank Russell Co. — in Tacoma, Wash., in 1936.
About 900 hundred of Russell's 1,750 employees work out of its Seattle office. Other events for employees of Russell's 17 other global offices will be scheduled throughout the anniversary year, Ms. Stouffer said.
Russell remained a family-owned business until 1999 when it was purchased by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. Ms. Stouffer said Russell had $2 trillion in assets under advisement as of Dec. 31 and $161 billion in assets under management.
The company moved from its longtime Tacoma home in October 2010, after Northwestern Mutual acquired the corporate headquarters building of the failed Washington Mutual Inc. in downtown Seattle.
