Frederick W. Herrmann was named managing director of public equities at the $89 billion New York State Teachers’ Retirement System, Albany, confirmed spokesman John Cardillo.
Mr. Herrmann, who will oversee $43 billion invested in public equities, is replacing Lillyn Teh, who will remain with the system for an undetermined period to assist in the transition, Mr. Cardillo said. Ms. Teh couldn’t be reached for comment.
Mr. Herrmann was a managing director and portfolio manager at BlackRock, managing quantitatively based domestic and international equities, according to a news release from the teachers system.
Brian Beades, a BlackRock spokesman, declined to comment.
