Diego Tomas Ruiz, CEO of the SEC, is leaving the agency and will return to the private sector, confirmed SEC Deputy Secretary Florence Harmon.
Ms. Harmon could not immediately comment on whether the position will be filled or whether Mr. Ruiz has already taken another job in the private sector.
Mr. Ruiz has been CEO since August 2006. He previously served as deputy chief for strategy and policy at the Federal Communications Commission, according to an SEC news release.
Mr. Ruiz was not immediately available for comment.
