The internal rate of return for private equity was 1.6% in the second quarter, down from 4.4% in the first quarter, while venture capital IRR was 0.4% for the second quarter, slightly lower than the 0.7% in the first quarter, according to data released Wednesday by Cambridge Associates.
Private equity fund managers distributed about $13 billion back to investors, up 43% from the first quarter, but called $19 billion in capital in the second quarter, up 71% from the prior quarter.
Venture capital managers' capital calls increased 17% from the first quarter to $3.5 billion, but distributions also increased by 7.3% to about $2.6 billion.
