Jase Auby was promoted by the $92.3 billion Texas Teacher Retirement System to chief risk officer and manager of strategic research and risk management, replacing Kyle McDaniel.
Mr. Auby was senior investment officer, risk management at the Austin-based fund, confirmed Howard Goldman, a TRS spokesman.
Mr. McDaniel left Texas Teachers on Sept. 30 and together with Jay Van Ert, joined alternative investment manager Dorchester Capital Advisors as partners.
Mr. McDaniel also holds the title of chief strategy and administrative officer, and Mr. Van Ert has responsibility for portfolio construction, confirmed Kelsey Quane, a company spokeswoman. Both positions are new, and Messrs McDaniel and Van Ert also have joined Dorchester’s management committee.
Dorchester manages $890 million, according to the firm’s Investment Advisor ADV form filed with the SEC.
Messrs. McDaniel and Van Ert both worked together at hedge fund-of-funds manager Austin Capital Management for almost 10 years as managing directors until the firm was closed in 2009; it was Mr. Van Ert’s most recent position.
