When the going gets tough, the tough go running. At least that's the motto for Steve Meier, chief investment officer for global cash management for State Street Global Advisors.
Mr. Meier, who is set to run his 10th marathon of the year, said the challenge of training for marathons helps him unwind from his rigorous schedule of 12- to 13-hour days in the office. He will run the New York City Marathon on Nov. 10, making it his 20th marathon since 1988.
“When I think about marathons, I see parallels to the current market; they're challenging, competitive and both require a disciplined process,” Mr. Meier, 49, said in a telephone interview.
Mr. Meier said he does not let his training get in the way of his work, noting that he runs for an hour to an hour and a half three nights a week, two hours on Saturdays and 12 to 22 miles on Sundays.
The other marathons Mr. Meier ran this year were in Miami; Little Rock, Ark.; Boston; Big Sur, Calif.; Duluth, Minn.; Missoula, Mont.; Area 51, Nevada; Chicago; and Newport, RI.
