Bruce Amlicke rejoined UBS Global Asset Management on Tuesday as co-chief investment officer and head of its alternative investment solutions business.
The latter position is new, part of an expansion of “senior management expertise to help grow the business,” Kris Kagel, a company spokesman, wrote in an e-mail response to questions.
Mr. Amlicke, who also is a managing director, will work closely with Rick Nardis, co-CIO and managing director, in UBS' Stamford, Conn. office.
Mr. Amlicke replaces William Brown, managing director and formerly co-CIO, who now concentrates more on hedge fund manager and strategy research, Mr. Kagel said. Mr. Amlicke reports to Bill Ferri, managing director and global head of UBS' Alternative and Quantitative investments unit, which includes AIS.
Mr. Amlicke began his career at O'Connor & Associates in 1986 and moved to UBS when it acquired O'Connor and fully integrated its hedge fund and hedge funds-of-funds businesses in 1994. Mr. Amlicke was involved in establishing the AIS business in 2000.
He was global CIO of UBS' AIS business until 2004, when he left to join hedge fund-of-funds manager Blackstone Alternative Asset Management as CIO and senior managing director of parent Blackstone Group. Mr. Amlicke left Blackstone in mid-2009.
AIS managed or advised on $20 billion in hedge funds of funds as of June 30.
