Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, Columbus, plans to hire four to seven active long-only domestic small-cap equity managers to run $200 million to $400 million each, confirmed spokeswoman Julie Graham-Price. Fund officials have not determined the total allocation or the number of managers to be hired. Small-cap managers that offer separate account strategies including core and style-specific strategies will be considered, according to the RFP. Shropshire County Pension Fund, Shrewsbury, England, is searching for an investment consultant, said Graham Chidlow, head of finance for the £920 million ($1.3 billion) plan. This is the first time incumbent Russell Investments will have to rebid since taking on the role in 2000. Fund officials are happy with Russell but wanted to test the market, Mr. Chidlow said. Champaign, issued an RFP for a general investment consultant for its $12.1 billion defined benefit fund and $667 million 401(a) defined contribution fund. Ennis Knupp, the incumbent to both funds, can rebid. SURS issued the RFP because state law requires the system to search for a consultant every five years; its most recent search was in 2005. In addition, the SURS board, restructured last year, wants to review consulting issues, according to Daniel L. Allen, chief investment officer. Proposals are due Aug. 12.
Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System, Harrisburg, is searching for an active domestic large-cap value equity manager to run $60 million and an active domestic small-cap growth equity manager to run $30 million to $35 million, confirmed Jim Allen, secretary at the $1.4 billion system. Current large-cap value manager DePrince Race & Zollo and small-cap growth firm Century Capital Management are invited to rebid. Cardiff (Wales) and Vale of Glamorgan Pension Fund issued an RFP for a manager to run a £25 million ($38 million) global real estate fund-of-funds portfolio, the £1 billion fund's first move into the strategy. Richard Bettley, pension fund manager, said funding likely will come from new cash inflows. The current asset allocation is roughly 65% equities, 20% bonds and 5% each in U.K. real estate, private equity and currency. London Borough of Islington Pension Fund issued an RFP for at least one manager to run two separate equity and fixed-income portfolios totaling up to £200 million ($305 million), according to Joanna Marfoh, head of treasury and pension fund management at the £700 million fund.
