William E. Mabe was named executive director of the $14 billion Illinois State Universities Retirement System, Champaign, effective June 21, according to a statement from the system.
He replaces Dan M. Slack, who left in December 2008 to become CEO of the $3.8 billion Colorado Fire & Police Pension Association, Greenwood Village.
Judith Parker, associate executive director, has been interim executive director.
Mr. Mabe was CEO of the $17 billion Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, Columbus, from 2005 to 2007, according to the bureau.
Most recently, Mr. Mabe provided strategic consulting services to both private-sector insurance companies and public-sector pension plans.
