Andrew Smith was named group head of property at Aberdeen Asset Management, replacing Rickard Backlund, who will retire by September, confirmed spokesman James Thorneley.
Mr. Backlund will stay on as a part-time consultant in his retirement.
Mr. Smith was chief investment officer in property and head of fund management in property. Aberdeen Asset CIO Anne Richards will assume some of Mr. Smith's CIO responsibilities, while his remaining duties will be handled by existing staff.
Aberdeen manages £170.9 billion ($247.3 billion), including £22.6 billion in real estate.
